❓ Data-entry help

Reference notes for filling in the GA form and product fields — not shown to customers, just for you.

GA units — when a label's unit doesn't match the field

Each field's label says the unit it wants (e.g. "Vitamin E (IU/kg)", "Taurine %"). Most nutrients are printed as a percent, but some — taurine especially, plus some minerals — are sometimes printed as mg/kg instead. If the label's unit doesn't match the field, convert before typing it in:

• mg/kg → % : divide by 10,000 (e.g. 2,000 mg/kg → 0.2%)

• Only convert for a field labeled "%". A field already labeled mg/kg or IU/kg wants that unit directly — no conversion needed.

If a sanity warning pops up under the GA grid saying a value is "far above the usual range," that's almost always this — an un-converted mg/kg number sitting in a % field. Double-check before saving.

Freeze-dried / dehydrated labels with a "Rehydrated" block

Some labels print two sets of numbers — the concentrated, as-sold analysis, and a second "Rehydrated" or "As Prepared" block for after you add water. Always use the top, as-sold block — never the rehydrated one. The scoring math converts everything to a dry-matter basis using the moisture % you enter, and that conversion assumes the concentrated, as-sold moisture (freeze-dried is usually ~5%). Entering the rehydrated moisture (often 60–70%) instead would badly distort every dry-matter figure for that product.

Vitamin C

Goes in the Ascorbic Acid field — same nutrient, just a different name on some labels. There's no separate "Vitamin C" field; don't add it as an ingredient-list entry either.

A label's "Additives" block (Technological / Sensory / Nutritional / Zootechnical)

Some labels (common on imported or EU-style brands) print a separate additives section listing preservatives, flavorings, and the vitamin/mineral premix. Where that goes:

• Preservatives and flavorings (tocopherol extract, citric acid, rosemary extract, choline chloride, etc.) → add them to the Ingredients list using your normal wording ("mixed tocopherols", "citric acid", "rosemary extract", "choline chloride") — several of these are scored ingredients, so skipping them drops real signal.

• The probiotic strain (e.g. "Enterococcus faecium DSM 10663/NCIMB 10415") → goes in both places: as "dried enterococcus faecium fermentation product" in Ingredients, AND the exact CFU count in the matching GA probiotic field (e.g. eFaecium).

• The rest of the vitamin/mineral premix (B-vitamins, D3, zinc/copper proteinate, etc.) → enter into the matching GA fields if one exists; otherwise it's fine to skip — not every micronutrient has a scoring hook yet.

Don't bother transcribing the milligram amounts from that block into Ingredients — Ingredients is just names, no quantities.

Size field

Internal only — never shown to customers. It exists purely so you can tell at a glance which package sizes you've already entered for a product. When you're adding another UPC for a product that's already in TrueBowl, the size you type there travels with that specific code — so later, when it's merged into the live product in Admin, that UPC and size stay paired rather than turning into two separate lists to match up by hand.
